Health Certificate for Travel

A travel certificate for pets, also known as a pet health certificate, is an official document issued by a licensed veterinarian that confirms your pet is healthy and meets all the requirements for travel. This certificate is often required when traveling with pets internationally or even domestically, depending on the destination.

Pet Travel Certificates

If you are traveling and require a Health Certificate please call our office.  We have USDA Accredited Veterinarians at some of our locations, but not all.  Please confirm whether or not you need a USDA Certificate before booking and also confirm that the date you need the Health Certificate is within the allotted time frame of your travel requirements.  International Health Certificates require at least 2 weeks’ advance notice for us to process – make sure you check with the USDA for requirements relating to your pet’s travel to your specific country. For more information, please visit the USDA website outlining the details and requirements for traveling with your pet.  We are not responsible for this error. If the exam takes place, you will still be charged. Most international travel requires a USDA Veterinarian.

Key details typically included in a pet travel certificate are:

  • Identification Information: Pet’s name, breed, age, and microchip number (if applicable).
  • Vaccination Records: Proof of up-to-date vaccinations, particularly rabies, which is commonly required.
  • Health Status: A statement from the veterinarian confirming the pet is healthy, free of infectious diseases, and fit to travel.
  • Parasite Treatments: Information on recent treatments for parasites, such as ticks and tapeworms, if required by the destination.
  • Destination-Specific Requirements: Some countries may have specific health requirements, quarantine rules, or additional tests that need to be met.

Again, It’s essential to check the specific regulations of your travel destination well in advance, as some locations have strict requirements, including specific timelines for vaccinations and health checks. For more information, please visit the USDA website.
